[Communication](https://help.thrive4.com/reporting?hsLang=en#communication) # Email history report ## The Email history report provides you with analytics, key insights, and functions to help improve your organisation’s communications This report can be found in **Reporting \> Communication reports \> Email history**. **Tip:** You can view the email, SMS, and Timeline message history for an individual contact. Just click their name to open their Contact Record and open the 'Messaging' tab.   ### Analytics **Subject** Displays the subject line of the email. Click this for a quick overview of the email’s delivery status and to view a copy of the email sent. ![](https://help.thrive4.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-29-2026-04-25-55-9482-PM.png?width=670&height=256&name=image-png-Jun-29-2026-04-25-55-9482-PM.png) **Type** Shows whether the email was sent just via email, or also via ‘Timeline’ – as a notification to the contacts’ Thrive4 app. **Sent date** The date that the email was sent from the Thrive4 system. **Recipient count** How many users the email was sent to. You can click this number for more details: The ‘Recipient name’ is person the email has been targeted to. If you have sent the email to a beneficiary, and they have a personal email address, it will be delivered to them. If you send it to a beneficiary and they do not have a personal email address, the email will by default be delivered to the account owner. The email may also have been sent to a staff member, or to an [additional email contact](https://help.thrive4.com/joinin-user-guide-enable-additional-contacts-to-receive-emails?hsLang=en). The recipient list also shows what date(s) and time(s) the email was: - Delivered - Opened - Clicked (any links within) - Bounced - Spam (marked as or delivered to) **Tip:** The recipient list can be exported via ‘Actions’ in the top-right corner.   You can select users using the checkboxes on the left, then click ‘Actions’ to send an SMS, a new message, or re-send the same message again. **Delivered** Message has been successfully delivered to the receiving server(s). **Opened** Recipient(s) has/have opened the HTML message. This analytic will not work for messages delivered as plain text, or when messages have been previewed. **Clicked** Acknowledgment from the recipient email client(s) that a link in the email has been clicked. **Bounced** Receiving server could not or would not accept mail to this recipient permanently. If a recipient has previously unsubscribed from your emails, the message is dropped. **Spam** Confirmation from the recipient email server(s) that the email has been flagged by their spam policy. **Invalid** Receiving server temporarily rejected the message. **Sent by** The name of the user that sent the email. If the email was sent automatically, then the name will display as 'System'.   ### Filters Messages can be filtered by date, the message type, or by the group they were sent to.
