[Product settings](https://help.thrive4.com/product-management?hsLang=en#product-settings) # How does setting inheritance work? ## This article will explain what is meant by 'inheritance' and how it works when you're setting up your products 'Inheritance' allows you to apply settings at the top product group-level, and any products that are then added into this folder will automatically inherit those predefined settings. This means less manual work for you and ensures that all products within a specific group adhere to the same setup.   ### How it works Begin by adding a product group and working through to apply the settings at the product group (folder) level. Once your group settings are defined, you can add in your products and add them into the product group with the defined settings. When these products are added to the group, they will automatically inherit the group-level settings. There's no need to individually configure each new product – they’re instantly aligned with the group standards. Where a setting has been inherited from a product group, you will see the tag 'Using product group settings': ![](https://help.thrive4.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jun-29-2026-12-44-49-2284-PM.png?width=670&height=277&name=image-png-Jun-29-2026-12-44-49-2284-PM.png) The only time a product will not inherit product group settings is when the product already has settings defined, then something different is applied to the group - this will not override the existing settings. **Tip:** You can edit settings at the product level, overriding those set at the product group settings.
